BREAKING: Nassau Coliseum Employees File 500M Lawsuit Against 21 Defendants

Update: According to the article, 20% of the people filing suit have been diagnosed with asbestos related illnesses and the rest fear they will end up with something to because they tend to take a long time to develop.

According to Newsday, 100+ former Coliseum workers are filing a lawsuit against 21 defendants including Nassau County, the Islanders, SMG, and Cabelvision for between 500 million and 1 billion dollars.  The suit alleges that long term exposure to asbestos at the Coliseum made them ill.  If you remember last year the news came out about the Coliseums asbestos and then came the OSHA investigation which concluded at the end of last year.

One of the defendants is the widow of a heating and air condition technician who filed a wrongful death suit.  The woman is seeking 10 million dollars in compensatory damages and 10 million in punitive damages, according to the article.  Her suit claims that even after the death of her husband that Coliseum workers were not informed of the asbestos nor were they trained how to handle it.
