According to Newsday, the Islanders announced that they have signed forward Colin McDoanld to a two year contract extension.

After never really being given a chance in the NHL, McDonald has cemented himself as a solid bottom 6 forward for the Islanders during this shortened season playing with Casey Cizikas and Matt Martin.

At 28 years old, McDonald is a good story of a guy who took a while to reach the NHL but is now excelling in his role.  His story is similar to former Islander and current Avalanche member PA Parenteau.  They of course are different style of players though.

McDonald missed last nights game with an illness and his status for tomorrow nights game is unknown as of now.
