Nabokov Bounce Back Effort Leads Isles Past Lightning

Tonight, after being destroyed by the Penguins on Sunday, the Islanders on the back of Evgeni Nabokov shut out Steven Stamkos and the Lightning by a score of 2-0.  Here are some of my notes from the game:

-It's nice to see the team hold a third period lead of one goal.  It has been a while since that happened, hopefully it happens more often.

-Once again, Tavares finds a way to get on the score sheet.  Great setup by Moulson on that goal.

-Great game by Nabokov, he really wasn't tested a ton.  However, when his number was called he rose to the occasion tonight!

-Nice game by the Amac/Hammer pairing tonight.  After their struggles this year, hopefully this game can give them some confidence.

-Good seeing Casey get PK time with Grabner out!  Casey has developed into a solid bottom 6 forward which is nice to see.  Hopefully he is the first of many products of this rebuild.

-Hopefully Ullstrom is ok, looked pretty bad when he was going back to the locker room.

-I hated him when he got here, but I hope Garth is able to resign Visnovsky.  He is a good player, poise with the puck, puck moving ability, and skating are fantastic.  He could be a real asset for us next season.

After tonights win, we currently sit one point behind the Rangers and two points out of the eighth spot with 22 games left.  Also, for the first time in a while we have reached the NHL .500 mark at 12-12-2 so the season can "re-start" now so to speak with our game against the Panthers on Saturday.  The gate to the playoffs is wide open for the Islanders to jump in, lets see if they can do it.

Next Game: Saturday @ Panthers 7:30 PM
