Evgeni Nabokov Placed On IR

According to reports, the Islanders placed goalie Evgeni Nabokov on IR this morning.

Nabokov was injured on the first shot of Saturday's game against the Red Wings.  He went down to attempt to stop a shot by Red Wings forward Darren Helm on a breakaway and after it went in you could see Nabby in pain and motioning for the trainer to come off the bench for him.

While there has been no determination made yet about a timetable for Nabby or the exact nature of his injury, yesterday Arthur Staple from Newsday said that he thought Nabby would be out for at least 4 weeks.
One has to wonder if this is an injury Nabokov had been playing through which would explain why his numbers fell off so far and why he has looked so slow at times going side to side in his crease.  This injury could be a blessing in disguise because it now gives Kevin Poulin a chance to be the team's number one goalie for the foreseeable future.
