Isles Active In Trade Discussions/Not Ready To Ship Off Vets

According to Darren Dreger from TSN, the Islanders along with the Canucks and Oilers are the most active teams in the league in trade discussions.

Dreger says that the Islanders are looking to add depth in goal and a defenseman.  Earlier tonight, Arthur Staple from Newsday released a piece with some potential Islanders trade targets for the Islanders which flew in the face of what Dreger is saying a little bit.

In that piece Staple said, "I started with goaltenders because I believe that is where Garth Snow is focusing his limited assets to make a deal."  He also speculates that a deal for a goalie in some sort is on the horizon.  While they are both saying they are looking for defensemen and goalies, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum so to speak on the kind of player the team is looking to acquire at each position.

Isles Aren't Sellers...Yet

Chris Botta reported earlier today that GM's had began to check in with Snow regarding our veterans like Thomas Vanek, Andrew MacDonald, and Evgeni Nabokov who are all in the final year of their contracts respectively.  Apparently, none of them are available as of yet as Snow is looking to add pieces to the team not take them away.

No matter who is saying what, I think it is pretty clear our Islanders are attempting to make moves to try and get the team back on track after this recent nearly 5 weeks skid they have been on.  This is a refreshing change from years past where instead of looking to add people we would have started dealing them by Christmas.  (See the James Wisniewski trade)
