Isles Trade Vanek To Habs

Update 3: According to Arthur Staple who mis read a text, both picks in this trade are conditional.  If Montreal doesn't make the playoffs no draft picks change hands.  However, if they make the playoffs the Islanders get a second round pick this year and the Islanders send them a 5th round pick next year.

So, now there is potential that we traded Thomas Vanek for a middle of the road prospect.  Terrible day for Garth Snow!

Update 2: According to Arthur Staple, the Islanders received a 2nd round pick not a conditional second round pick.  Additionally, if Montreal makes the playoffs the Islanders will send them a 5th round pick.

I don't know how Montreal managed to pull this off but they fleeced Garth Snow, terrible job by the Islanders GM.

Update: Reports have surface suggesting the Islanders acquired Sebastian Collberg as the prospect in this deal.  In 40 games in the Swedish Elite League this season Collberg has 9 points.

In the dying minutes of the deadline today the Islanders traded Thomas Vanek and a conditional draft pick to Montreal in exchange for a conditional 2014 2nd round pick and a prospect.

On the surface this appears to be pretty bad for Snow.
