According to Darren Dreger on tonight's episode of insider trading on TSN, the Islanders have made defenseman Dan Boyle a contract offer.
"The Islanders, who have already made Boyle a contract offer according to Dreger, are waiting to hear from Boyle's camp about whether or not he intends to negotiate. That decision is expected to come down this week."
The Islanders, who acquired Boyle's rights from the Sharks last week in exchange for a conditional fifth round pick in next years draft haven't been given much of a chance to retain the veteran defenseman. It has been said that Boyle will be vetting the Islanders this week talking to people he knows about the team and will give the team an answer by the end of the week if he is interested in negotiating to stay here.
This appears to be another proactive move by GM Garth Snow as instead of waiting til the end of the week to make an offer he makes it earlier to try and expedite the negotiating process. This is encouraging as Snow doesn't seem to be willing to waste any time in improving the team which is a welcomed change from recent years.
