Isles Squeak Out 5th Straight Win Vs Panthers In Shootout

Tonight, our Islanders managed to get their fifth straight win all be it in tougher fashion then it should've been as they defeated the Panthers by a score of 4-3 in a shootout.  Here are some of my notes:

-Great game for Nikolay Kulemin, he was everywhere tonight and just had a solid consistent effort from the start.

-Much like Kulemin, Ryan Strome had a good game as well.

-The team needs to be more disciplined, the late penalties really came back to haunt them.

-Much like the discipline, the team needs to work on executing clean exits from their zone.  Their failure to do that was really evident particularly in the third period on the Panthers tying goal.

-It is a little confusing why Jack Capuano didn't use his time out in the third period especially after the Panthers goal when they seemed to gain some momentum back.

-Yet another good effort from the penalty kill tonight, which has seemed to hit its stride over the last week or so.

-While Halak probably wants one, maybe two goals back tonight, he still had a solid game and gave the team a chance to win which is what you want from your goalie.  The save he made in the second period squeezing his head to the cross bar was simply ridiculous.

While this victory didn't come easy for the Islanders, it won't get any easier for them as they begin a period of 4 straight games against the Lightning followed by the Penguins.  After a tough west coast trip to start the month, this will be yet another tough November test for the Islanders.

Next Game: Tomorrow Night 7PM @ Tampa Bay
