Isles Can't Buy a Goal in Shutout Loss

Earlier this evening, our Islanders were shutout 4-0 by the Vancouver Canucks.  Here are some of my notes from the game:

-This definitely was not Jaroslav Halak's best game and I am sure he would be the first to tell you that.  I'm not sure what happened with him but he has been a bit shaky over the last week or two.

-If there was ever a game decided by special teams, this was it.  The Islanders went 0-5 on the power play, on top of that they also gave up two goals on the penalty kill as well.  Special teams, which have been an Achilles heel for the Islanders at some points this season really came back to bite them tonight.

-Forgetful home debut for Kael Mouillierat today.  While the first penalty called on him was soft, the second one was a dumb play by him and he has to know better than that.  The power play goal resulting from that penalty sent the team in the downfall they couldn't get out of.

-Josh Baileys failure on that glorious opportunity in front of the net in the second period is exactly why there are some that don't like him being on the first line.  While he has played better, when I see Josh Bailey I still don't see a top line player.

-Anders Lee was one of the better forwards today, along with his center John Tavares.  Lee had a few great chances, especially in the first but Miller wouldn't give in.  Meanwhile, Tavares had his legs going all game and created a few chances just based on effort which is always fun to watch.

After yesterdays exciting game, this was definitely a let down.  The poor play in the second period really put the team in a hole they couldn't dig themselves out of.  While they did have a better effort in the third period, this was a game where they simply couldn't buy a goal.

Next Game: Tuesday vs Arizona
